[EN] Word Notebooks: the best notebooks in the world for to-do lists nerds!

As I was writing some weeks ago in this post (sorry, it’s in italian), I spend a lot of time every month reading/searching for new tips & tricks about how-to improve my personal productivity. Some of the best tools available are to-do lists, a quite effective way to keep your mind focused on what you have to do and when you have to do it, and to free it up from useless information every time you complete a task: just draw a line over it and begin with the next one. For practical reasons, I always write my to-do lists on paper, but I always felt the need to have them all in one place, and to carry them always with me, so I can take note of the new tasks I would like to do wherever I am.

Thanks to the great blog Lifehacker, I discovered these Word Notebooks, that come bundled with an “unique bullet point system […] to organize your tasks efficiently“. I tried it on my own paper sheets for some weeks and I was really shocked about how efficient and innovative this system is for to-do lists management, so I decided to order a pack of three Word Notebooks (9.99 $ + 10.25 $ for shipping to Sweden), innovation must be rewarded! I got them after just five working days (thank you USPS) and now I’m starting using them.

They are quite well done and pocketable, so I can easily bring them with me together with my smartphone. The Word Notebooks website guys shipped my package one day after the payment (via Paypal), so it’s an excellent service by that point of view, buy with confidence. The shipping cost could be lower and help them spreading more in Europe, but any other cons in my opinion, awesome product 🙂

More pictures after the break 🙂

[EN] iTunes for advanced users: how to take advantage of “Album Rating” tag

26/11/2012

Since its introduction, the “Album Rating” tag behaviour and usage have not been totally clear, but it could indeed become a really powerful tool for sorting out your music collection even better, so let’s give a quick look to it. We already had the standard “Rating” tag, do we really need an “Album Rating” tag as well? Yes we do, and I will show you why.

If you are an avid music collector and cataloguer, and your collection is bigger than one terabyte like in my case, somewhen in your life you will need to create a “Best Albums” playlist, a subset of your collection that you would bring with you on the Moon. Creating a “Best Albums” playlist is not an easy task like creating a “Best Tracks” playlist, you need good evaluation skills to rely on. Considering just the single tracks ratings will bring you to a too much and cluttered “Best Albums” playlist.

[EN] Audioactivity netlabel, an example of a well-done layout for “Releases” page

04/04/2011

In all these years of netaudio activism I stumbled upon (at least) a gazillion of netlabel websites, but I found really few well-done “Releases” pages. It seems that many netlabels admins understimate the importance of the layout of a “Releases” page and they go kinda random into designing it.

My opinion is that a good “Releases” page must contain a general overview of all the releases available, with just a cover and some basic infos for every listed release. Basic infos include: artist name, album title, release code, release date, direct download link and “more details” link. If the user wanna know more infos about the release before downloading it, he can click on the “more details” link and get a really informative page about that release. If the user wanna download the release as fast as possible (I’m an example of this kind of users), he can just click on the direct download link and he’s served.

Netlabels are about downloading free music, aren’t they?

[IT] Netlabel for Dummies #8: come estrarre automaticamente una serie di file compressi ZIP/RAR in cartelle separate

19/07/2009

eldino001.zip => C:\eldinonetlabel.com\eldino001\
eldino002.zip => C:\eldinonetlabel.com\eldino002\
eldino003.zip => C:\eldinonetlabel.com\eldino003\
eldino004.zip => C:\eldinonetlabel.com\eldino004\

Lo stesso risultato vogliamo ottenerlo usando un software che faccia tutto in automatico.
