[EN] The Most Stunning Female Vocals in the Netlabel World: a mixtape by eldino (free mp3)

I’m not a fan of mixtapes myself, I’m more into producing my own stuff instead of mixing other people’s tracks. Anyway, I have been asked to mix some Creative Commons tunes for op3n netlabel project, so here i am and this is my mixtape. Lemme explain some stuff about it first 🙂

Netaudio is mostly a guys-only world, but some amazing female artists and singers pop up from time to time with some awesome tracks. This mixtape is a high quality selection of atmospheric electronic music featuring female vocals, taken from various (and kinda famous) netlabels all around the world.

I tried to do my best applying my music production skills to the art of mixing tracks made by other artists, tweeking around with my lovely copy of Ableton Live. Instead of just crossfading tracks, I tried to experiment a bit using send/return, effects and slicing a bit the ends of some tracks using cut&paste.

Non sono un grande fan dei mixtape nè dell’arte del djing, perchè ho sempre preferito dedicarmi alla produzione del mio materiale piuttosto che al mixaggio del materiale altrui. Ad ogni modo, mi è stato chiesto di farne uno per la netlabel op3n specializzata in mixtape di musica in Creative Commons e ho accettato, anche perchè era da un po’ di tempo che mi frullava per la testa di fare una cosa del genere.

Dopo qualche giorno di lavoro con Ableton Live è uscito fuori un mixtape di 51 minuti contenente 12 traccie di musica elettronica pubblicata su varie netlabels. Le caratteristiche in comune tra queste traccie sono:
– ottima musica elettronica (per lo più downtempo e trip-hop);
– stupende voci femminili;
– qualora voleste le singole traccie, sappiate che ognuna di esse è scaricabile gratuitamente e legalmente grazie alla licenza Creative Commons.

Ebbene sì, la mia è una selezione musicale che ruota tutta intorno alla voce femminile: essendo il mondo delle netlabels per lo più maschile, pare strano trovare delle cantanti donna, eppure ci sono e spaccano di brutto.

[EN] A release a day keeps the netlabel fans away

Many netlabels admins have got a hurting habit: they publish a new release every few days. As Plosive, One netlabel admin, said to me some weeks ago on Efnet: “They don’t let releases breathe“.

I know these admins mostly act like this because they are too much enthusiastic and wish to reach 100th-200th-300th.. release as soon as possible, but this habit is a fucking boomerang, because:
– most people has not the time to download and listen a whole album every 2-3 days;
– you can’t grant decent quality filters on the music you release;
– you flood the netaudio scene;
– you just release every fart.mp3 that arrives in your inbox;
– seriusly FUCKER, you publish every FUCKING Fruityloops wannabe around, so the few great artists you (eventually) put hands on get submerged by a ton of shit, and it’s harder for fans to find the gems.

Facciamo sosta nel catalogo della netlabel Rawmatroid per segnalare un album a cavallo tra ambient, space ambient e quel genere che fino a 5-6 anni fa si chiamava new age. Relax time, young boys!

[EN] How-to Download Whole Netlabel Catalogues With Few Clicks: The Ultimate Guide / Example 1: Terminal Station

Did you ever wish to download tons of gigabytes of netlabel stuff in a painless way?  Ok, this guide is for you 🙂

I will show you all the coolest tricks to download whole netlabel catalogues with just some clicks 🙂 This guide will show you the basics of this “art” using one netlabel for episode 🙂 This is necessary, because every netlabel website has a different structure, so I will show you the most common cases you could stumble upon.

What do you need to follow this guide?
– Mozilla Firefox browser;
– DownThemAll extension.

In this example, I will show you how to download the whole catalogue of Terminal Station netlabel (while i’m writing, the last release is tsa-032) in a painless, organized and fast way.

1. Point your browser to the releases page of Terminal Station netlabel website;

[IT] eldinopensiero: ciò che trovo sugli scaffali dei negozi di dischi è solo noia.

Noto sempre più spesso che ascolto sempre meno musica commerciale (nel senso di “in vendita nei negozi”), perchè non trovo niente di valido, ma solo noia, ripetizione, aderenza agli stilemi del genere di riferimento. La musica dotata di cartellino del prezzo non riesce più ad emozionarmi, è sempre la solita zuppa, sono rari gli artisti-rivelazione, gli artisti che hanno qualcosa di originale da dire, qualcosa di “creativo”, gli artisti che ascoltarli è un colpo al cuore, gli artisti capaci di darti un’emozione.

Come ho più volte affermato, personalmente dò la colpa di tutto ciò alla democratizzazione delle tecnologie per produrre musica. Ormai anche il mio macellaio fa musica. Fin quando l’ascolta solo lui, a me sta bene, ma quando arriva sul mercato, non mi sta bene più.

L’appiattimento culturale è evidente sotto gli occhi dei più attenti e di chi divora tutta la musica, senza confinarsi ad un solo genere. Ormai avrò ridotto l’ascolto di musica”commerciale” ad un 10% dei miei ascolti totali, perchè davvero non trovo più nessuno che meriti il suo posto sullo scaffale, che meriti il contratto che ha siglato con la sua etichetta.

Woah, mi sembra siano passati secoli da quando ho recensito l’ultima release post-rock per questa rubrica, eppure adoro il post-rock! Ad ogni modo, meglio rimediare immediatamente :p
Coma Stereo è il nome di una band slovena, costituita da quattro membri evidentemente cresciuti a pane & Mogwai, che ci regala un cinque-traccie davvero notevole.

[IT] Dolceuchessina – Ancora?!? (ska, 2008) / [punk4free]

Oggi vi presento una band italiana che ha rilasciato un suo album auto-prodotto (scaricabile gratis e legalmente!) sulla community punk4free.org, di cui ho già avuto modo di parlare in questo post. Punk4free, ricordiamolo brevemente, si occupa principalmente di distribuire gratuitamente album auto-prodotti e demo di musica punk e hardcore italiana, ma non è raro trovare qualcosa che fuoriesce da quella nicchia, come questo “Ancora?!?“, che è un concentrato di ottimo e fresco ska.
